Vivien Buvawala, LMSW, is a professional counselor and therapist, licensed in Maryland. As  one of the premier members of the Substance Use Disorders and Interventions Fellowship  (SUDIF), Vivien graduated with a Masters degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.  Drawing from her experiences working with individuals across the lifespan, Vivien values good  mental health and believes in the importance of being an ally, support and helping hand to all.  She is always excited to learn new ways of doing things and hear a fresh perspective while  creating the space necessary for everyone to speak freely about their challenges, think through  options, celebrate progress, and value their journeys. In her time outside of work, Vivien enjoys  listening to music, spending time with her friends and family, and reading a good mystery novel.

Brian completed his Master’s Degree in Social Work at the Catholic University of America in Washington DC.  Brian interned at Georgetown University Hospital with the Division of Infectious Diseases and at the Veterans’ Health Administration with the homeless veterans’ program.  Brian’s experience ranges from working with individuals, older adults, young adults, children/adolescents who suffer from mental health and substance abuse.  Brian has experience in working in various settings which include psychiatric hospitals and nonprofit community mental health treatment centers.  Brian believes in helping the client identify their problems and to utilize their strengths to help them address the issue to move forward.

I am excited to work for My Empowering Impact to provide services to individuals looking to
make changes in their lives. I obtained a Doctorate in Behavioral Health from Arizona State University. I have over 10 years of experience providing therapy to others. I have worked with different populations in a number of settings including schools, home-based, a maximum-security prison, and outpatient mental health clinics. I believe that therapy is a collaborative effort. We will work together to increase insight, make behavioral changes, resolve issues, and achieve your goals. My philosophy in life is to treat others the way that I want to be treated. This philosophy also drives my approach to treatment. Every client is treated with respect, care, understanding, support, and without judgement. I want

My name is Leticia Marquina and I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from George Mason University and my Master’s degree in Social Work from The University of Maryland School of Social Work. Throughout the years, I have volunteered at multiple homeless shelters and I have facilitated Healthy Family/ parenting classes for Fairfax County.  I have three years of experience as a case manager while working for a homeless shelter in Reston, VA. I also have two years of experience as a medical social worker while working at a Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. I am currently a Child Welfare Services social worker because I enjoy working with children and families. When I am not working, I enjoy outdoor activities and traveling. I am passionate about my career and enhancing it while making a difference in someone’s life.

Cherry Masarat is committed to helping others learn how to build healthier relationships. My approach is to help clients to develop a healthy relationships starting with self. My work focuses on helping clients to explore the root of emotionally ineffective behavior, habits, and self-perception. We accomplish this through a trusting and therapeutic relationship. I encourage clients to become empowered in using their strengths to facilitate change and create the life they want. By letting go of our past, setting goals for our future, and learning to live, the ability to be mindful of the present, life is full of endless enjoyments.

My Name is Miraya Jackson, LMSW and I am a mental health therapist at My Empowering Impact. I have over 8 years of experience working in the social work field, mostly as a case manager with the disabilities population. I graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2014 with a Masters of Social Work concentrating in Policy Practice.
