Accidental injuries such as choking and drowning are the leading cause of death in children.
In 2001 an estimated 17,537 children ages 14 and younger were treated in US emergency departments for choking episodes (CDC).
According to the American Heart Association 88% of cardiac arrests (loss of heart functioning breathing and consciousness) occur in the home.
70% of people present during this unfortunate event are completely helpless simply because they do not know what to do.
In the state of Maryland a child must be at-least eight
(8) years old to be left alone and or unattended in a house or car. In addition, a child must be at least 13 years old to baby-sit another child. As a result many kids are left home alone or left to watch their sibling/siblings. In any event they should be fully aware of what to do in case of an emergency.
